Dave told me to keep things simple so I didn't get overwhelmed and get mad at everybody because I was in the kitchen all day. But, I love traditions and I love the foods at special holidays, so I didn't want to miss anything.
We made everything from scratch including a few batches of my mom's yummy raspberry/cranberry freezer jam and four yummy pies (never made pies before, but they turned out perfect!). I was in the kitchen ALL day, but it was actually fun because I had different kids with me through the day and it was a great time.
Akayla made the mashed potatoes and gravy from step one....peeling 25 potatoes! Corina made stuffing and cranberry sauce. Tanner made a relish tray for us to snack on while we were cooking. Adriana made a yummy fruit salad and took apart a whole pomegranite for us.
Our dishwasher is still broken so we did hundreds of dishes by hand. I get a little bit weird about eating in a messy kitchen so right before the food was all done I got everybody in and we made our kitchen sparkle. It made the food taste better-at least for me!
Everything was delicious except our turkey. My mom was trying something she heard...that you can put a frozen turkey in a Reynold's turkey bag and cook it all night on low heat. She tried it and the turkey was moist and delicious! We tried it and the turkey was done by 8:00 a.m. and then we kept it in the oven on warm for the rest of the day. The problem was that I read the directions on the box which said to poke holes in the bag to let steam escape. Yep, all the moisture escaped and it was the dryest turkey I've ever eaten. Oh well!
Friday my parents came and spent the weekend and brought Genelle and Carissa. It was so fun to have them all here. My mom and I worked on some projects. Genelle and Akayla went to a dance. We all went on a long chilly walk to the park. Dave and my dad took the kids to the church and played laser tag. We played Phase 10. We ate leftovers and other yummy food. We went to church together. My mom did tons of laundry (she knows I don't love it!). We stayed up late talking. We celebrated Dave's birthday with german chocolate cake. We giggled a lot about Mariah's super thoughtful gifts to Dave (a tube of half-used toothpaste, a little bag of wheels from some random thing, an old Book of Mormon, and the cutest cards a 5-year old could possibly make!!!). We planned what we would do when I come to visit in only a couple of weeks. It was a great weekend!good things:

Wow, your lattice pie looks perfect! I love the list of gifts Mariah gave too. It makes me think of Dan's b-day gift to me. He wrapped up his old shoes that were too small for me to use for "the next baby". I hope your dishwasher gets fixed soon. That would drive me crazy - but Jared would love it. He prefers to wash the dishes by hand at our house anyway.
That sounds like an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving. We were lucky enough to be there at your mom and dads and it's always so much fun.
