fourteen

It's not as shocking when your 2nd (or 8th for that matter!) child reaches certain milestones.....

.......but no matter what anyone says it's just as exciting!

14 years old is a big milestone in our family because of a few things:

a. they get to attend stake dances

b. they are allowed to talk on the phone with the opposite sex

and....
c. they get a boy/girl birthday party

Unfortunately those things all sounds like cruel forms of torture to Corina. It's not that she doesn't like boys - in fact she really likes them! She has some really good friends that she loves to talk to and have fun with. But she also has some boys that really like her.......and that makes her want to "die in a hole" (to quote Corina).

I'm very ok with her being shy with boys that she happens to like that like her back- she certainly doesn't need to be talking on the phone with anyone.

But Akayla and I both decided that she needed to have a really good birthday party with all the fun guy friends she and Akayla have in common. The only problem was that we knew she would NEVER invite them.

So we made it a big surprise party and invited them for her!

It was a great party - a lot of the kids said it was the best party they've ever been to! I've since had 2 of the kids call and ask me to plan their next party for them! HAHAHA!

We had about 30 kids come not including Akayla and Corina and we met at the baseball field behind our church. We told everyone to wear dark clothes that could get wet so we could have a flour war and a huge shaving cream fight, then we had a bonfire and played night games.

We had tons of great food and even though there were different groups - some from church, some from different high schools, some from the Academy - they all got to know each other really well and became really good friends by the end of the night!

Corina felt very loved and decided it was her best birthday (she even said that before she got the $100 for clothes)!

Now we just have to talk her into going to the stake dance next weekend!

Some fun pictures from the party - Corina managed to avoid the camera so I only got a couple of her. I really wish I had a picture of her huge shaving cream mohawk - so funny!

I didn't get pictures of everyone, but I wanted Corina to be able to remember a lot of the people who came to her party.......

2 of Akayla's best friends: Patrick and Collin
and Brandon is in the back.
Alyssa and Brianna - such cute girls!

That looks like so much fun. Reminds me of our high school days!

Sounds like she had a great party. I am terrified to have my little girls grow up! I'm so glad you get to show me what I have to expect. :)
