miracles

My husband is very smart and could have been anything he wanted.

He chose to be a seminary teacher.

We aren't in it for the money.

We know there are many other blessings that come with the job, but we've always known we wouldn't necessarily be financially prosperous in this life especially because we also want a large family.

I am going to post some very personal things for our family journal because I also believe that sharing things builds your own faith and can help others strengthen their faith.

We have had the hardest financial year in our marriage - even harder than our first few years - because:
1) Dave is back in school for his masters and each class is at least $1000

2) We had another baby and insurance didn't pay much of it

3) We invested a lot of money in a company that folded and we lost everything (long long story) including all of our savings and some retirement money that we now have to repay

Though it has been our hardest year we have seen more miracles showing us the Lord's hand in our lives.

Last year when it came time to register our kids for school we knew it would be $600 and we didn't have it.

I prayed....hard.....to know what to do.

I was asked to accompany a dear friend's daughter for a family reunion talent show which I gladly agreed to do. (Not even thinking of being paid for doing it)

She is a very accomplished violinist and it was a very difficult peice.

I enjoyed practicing with her. It's not very often that you get to play a fun piece like that!

Right before the talent show two of her cousins asked me to accompany them also - sight reading. Not a problem - I've done this all my life and I love it!

I enjoyed being with the family - they are all really good people.

My friend paid me $100 though I said I didn't need to be paid.

The two cousin's parents wrote me a check for $200.

Before I left the oldest brother (who is very wealthy) asked how much I was paid and when he was told said it wasn't enough.

He came to give me some cash and I told him I had been paid way more than I should have been and I couldn't accept it.

He looked me in the eyes and said.....
"sometimes the Lord answers
your prayers through other people".

I was taken aback.
I said a clumsy thank you and went to the car.
I counted the money....it was exactly $600.
Just enough for registration.

This year we have 2 high schoolers and I couldn't believe that it was going to cost us $900.

Next year isn't going to be a problem, but this year.....this year it is really hard.

We didn't know what we were going to do.

Of course I prayed......a lot......and I knew somehow things would work out.

Then the day before registration I got a letter in the mail from Dave's sister.

I opened it and started reading......
She has recently gotten promoted in her job - she will be paid a lot more now.

In July she received payment from her new job and her old job, and she was also back paid from last summer.......

.......so she wrote us a check because she knows things get hard and she doesn't have a family yet so she wanted to help us out.

It was $1,000.

She was worried about offending us and was going to send $500 but she kept feeling like she needed to send more.

I've always known the Lord loved me,
but it's very nice to be reminded sometimes.

Thanks for sharing this Ang. It brings flashbacks for me of my high school years and the many generous uncles, neighbors, friends and anonymous people who helped us through the hard times with the essentials like house payments and medical bills and the nonessentials like Christmas gifts piano lessons and school dances :) Its such a blessing that the Lord grants us the opportunity to be a part of miracles, both on the receiving and the giving end.

Oh sweet Ang... Thank you so much for sharing. This is awesome. You just got a "windows of heaven" blessing for being faithful. It has everything to do with tithing and working to build His kingdom, doesn't it!

I always find great comfort in the phrase, "Consider the lilies..." when Jesus was counseling his disciples. If the Lord takes care of the least of his creations, providing rain, food, shelter, etc., surely he knows our needs. We, his greatest creations, will always be taken care of as we choose to put ourselves in His hands, and "toil not, neither...spin" ourselves into a frenzied worry. He has PROVEN that He will open the windows of heaven, hasn't He. And He'll do it again.

(You know I'm saying this more for me than for you, right?) ;)

Even though that was personal Angela, thanks for sharing. I really needed to hear that today. I'm so glad that you have such a strong testimony and faith to know that the Lord will help us. Such a good reminder for us especially when times are hard for so many of us. You are so amazing and I'm so grateful that other people listen to the spirit and do help the Lord in answering our prayers. You are wonderful Angela and I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and your family!!!!

Thank you for sharing your sweet insights. School is soooo hard!!! :) Patrick's doctorate is about to do me in! ;) I'm so glad that you are almost done!!! But I know the Lord blesses us, just like you said. We have seen so many miracles in our lives as well. The Lord really does love His children. All He requires is faith and then the blessings shower down.

Wow Ang! Seriously wow. Thanks for sharing.

BTW...my father-in-law taught Seminary for 35 years and my hubby is 5th of 9 kids. However, my mother-in-law worked as an OR nurse for 30+ years as well. You haven't chosen an easy road, but I admire you all the more for walking it.
