Nationals & Prom

Akayla's duet with Jeff got 1st place high gold (highest possible score) and 3rd place overall in the pro category! They were chosen to dance in the Triple Crown Event

Akayla & good friend Jackie
Akayla & Erinn's duet also got 1st place high gold and 5th place overall in pro!

Akayla had her national clogging competition in Utah Friday and Saturday.

Just the 2 of us drove down for it.

My mom met us there to watch Akayla's dances and it was really fun to have company while we cheered Akayla on!

Friday afternoon Akayla was done dancing at about 4:00 so we got a late lunch, got Menchies (frozen yogurt), did our nails, watched movies with some of my family, and had lots of time to talk and giggle!

Her last dance on Saturday was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and then we planned to rush right home so she could get ready for prom.

Everything was running smoothly except her duet was chosen to dance-off in a Triple Crown event.

It only put us an hour later so we were good.

Walking around Lagoon for 2 days straight plus lots of dancing = a very tired girl, so Akayla slept the entire 2 hours home.

I just snarfed every snack we had to stay awake!

As soon as we were home Akayla showered and went to our friend Cherie's house to get her hair done.

Akayla's hair goes to her waist so it took a LLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG time to curl every darn piece!

The finished product was worth the wait though.

She looked stunning!

It's times like this that I really wish I had a better camera and knew how to take better pictures.

The ones I took don't do either of them justice. They are both beautiful people!

Akayla & her date Tanner Morton

I guess we'll have to wait for the pictures from the dance.

Her date is one of the sweetest boys Akayla knows.

They had a great time at the dance (while he shielded her eyes from all the dirty dancing going on - what has high school come to?!!!)

Dinner was delicious and so was dessert after the dance. They were with a great group of kids who were all dressed modestly and had a lot of fun together!

Sounds like a perfect first prom to me!

She's been 16 for a month now and has had a date every weekend with a different boy - and she has 2 this weekend!!

All I'm going to say about that is she is really lucky especially because they're all really good boys. Not everyone gets the same opportunities to date! I hope she's not going to spoil dating for all my other girls!!

During the dance we both got texts from several members of her team and her director saying she had made it on to the pro all-american team again. So exciting!! She wished she could have been at the award show but she wouldn't have missed prom for anything!

good things:

not tripping in your new HIGH heels

feeling like a princess (oh, the memories!!)

coming home

She is absolutely beautiful! She gets the dates because of her glowing personality. I am excited for you, Dave, and Akayla and all the adventures the next two years will hold!

So proud of this beautiful girl! What a great girl you've raised. She's been so sweet to me, since I've been in Young Women's. Give her a love from me. Good job Akayla.
